near Amboise, the anger of a wife after the death of her husband killed by a drunk driver

The tornado of feelings that falls on her will not taint her fight. Since Thursday November 28, 2024 and the announcement of the death of her husband, prisoner in his medical chair since July 2020 and a very serious road accident that occurred near Amboise, Sandrine Quéré has been a grieving wife. And angry.

“It is unacceptable to declare this death as manslaughter. This is a profound disrespect to the victim and their loved ones: these people who decided to take the road after drinking too much had a choice. It’s a conscious choice! »

Hit by a drunk and speeding motorist while riding his motorcycle (1), Jérôme Quéré, brilliant director of the Valéo factory in (Loir-et-Cher), was never able to escape from the ordeal of quadriplegia.

“It wasn’t easy but we decided to fight”

Since the trial of the driver involved, Victorien, in May 2022 in , and his sentence to eighteen months in prison, twelve of which were suspended, the “Quéré team” as it called itself, has struggled to find a smile again.

“Medically, the outlook did not allow us to entertain great hopes of progress, but we decided to fight”proudly stands Sandrine, mother of two children.

“Jérôme never gave up the desire to progress: the return of speech was experienced as a victory and a gain in autonomy, he was even able to return to his work, in a position specially designed for him. We were attached to the idea of ​​finding some semblance of life together. It hasn’t been easy but life at home as a foursome has been a real joy.” shares Sandrine, moved.

Double fatal pneumonia

What his words don’t say are the daily care, the carers present at home 24 hours a day, the loss of privacy and a quartet that sometimes struggles to find a rhythm. “We tried to put things into perspective but we were completely dispossessed of our environment and of Jérôme”continues the grieving wife.

Jérôme Quéré died at the age of 57, exhausted by double pneumococcal pneumonia contracted last summer during a vacation in Spain. There remain final memories shared by the sea, “his element” always.

On Wednesday December 4, his funeral will be celebrated at the Blois crematorium at 10 a.m.
