17 million French people could pay much more taxes than last year even if their salary has not changed.
This is one of the big topics of the moment. Given the prevailing political instability, the question of the amount of taxes to pay in 2025 arises for many French people. With the risk of rejection of the budget, the alert was given: 17 million households could pay more to the taxman next year compared to this year.
Faced with this statement made by the Minister of the Budget, what would really be the impact on the wallets of the people concerned? Flashlight did the calculations, based on the median salary: 1850 euros net before taxes. Here are the results in three cases.
A single person receives 1,800 euros in salary each month in his bank account (€1,850 before withholding tax). Fixed remuneration throughout the year 2024, which he will therefore declare for taxes in spring 2025. Without children, this employee does not use any reduction or tax credit either. It is therefore a very simple declaration that he will make to the tax authorities.
When he has transmitted his income, the Public Treasury will demand a total of 490 or 526 euros from him. This will be the first amount if MPs adopt the 2025 draft budget. Otherwise, it will be the second since it will be calculated on a scale which has not been increased by inflation.
For a married couple, both members of which earn 1,800 euros net after taxes per month, the gap will be greater depending on what parliamentarians decide. In the first case, the total bill could amount to €1281. In the second, you will have to pay €1,353.
Finally, for a couple who are also married, with the same salary, and who have a 10-year-old child in their care, the variation could be even greater, of almost 100 euros. The first hypothesis would result in €361 of income tax for the household, while the second would increase the sum to €451.
These calculations were carried out on the basis of simple declarations, without any reduction or tax credit, and on the principle of similar income between adults. Verified with the official tax simulator, the amounts indicated correspond to the total to be paid over the year, i.e. withholding tax included.
