The Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) is investigating an arson attack that destroyed five vehicles Monday evening in the Saint-Léonard borough.
Montreal police were alerted shortly before 9 p.m. to a vehicle on fire in the parking lot of a business located on rue du Champ-d’Eau, near rue Louis-Sicard.
When the police arrived on site, firefighters from the Montreal Fire Safety Service (SIM) were working to control the flames which had spread to an industrial building.

According to initial information, the fire is of a criminal nature, while incendiary material was found near the vehicle, said SPVM spokesperson Véronique Dubuc.
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control, but in total, five vehicles were affected by the flames, while the industrial and commercial building suffered significant damage.
However, no one was injured during this fire and no suspect has been arrested for the moment, it was specified.

The investigation was transferred to the arson section of the SPVM, which will have to shed light on the exact circumstances surrounding this event.
SPVM investigators should travel to the scene in the morning to analyze the scene and try to understand what really happened, it was added.
