Christmas market, illuminations, Santa Claus' descent… What is the program for the end of year festivities in Morlaix?

  • 1 The illuminations launched this Friday

The City, Morlaix community and the Morlaix Nouvelle Vague merchants' association have combined their efforts to liven up the streets of the city center throughout the Christmas holiday period. It will all start this Friday, December 6, 2024 with the launch of the sound entertainment and, at 5:30 p.m., the inauguration of the illuminations. Several new features are worth remembering, such as the luminous skies of Place des Otages, which will be added to other installations, such as the ball and Santa Claus on either side of town hall.

Valérie Scattolin, assistant for commerce and city center entertainment, surrounded by Virginie Quéguiner and Cathy Tanguy, from Morlaix Nouvelle Vague, announced the program of Christmas festivities.
  • 2 A large free ride at Place des Otages

Another new feature, instead of the ice rink and springboard, a Santa Claus “little train” – or rather a large merry-go-round – will be installed at Place des Otages. Free access, it will be next to a bear… 7 meters high! The ride will be in operation every day from Friday December 6 to Monday January 6, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. during school periods and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. during vacations.

  • 3 Three Sundays of activities and opening of shops

Sunday December 8, 15 and 22, shops will be open and musical street entertainment will be offered. The 22nd will be the high point thanks to the participation of the ephemeral Christmas Choir, directed by Rob Mitchell, at the town hall, while the Suck da Head fanfare, from Touraine, will stroll through the alleyways diving the public in the atmosphere of New . Finally, around 6 p.m., Santa Claus will rappel down the viaduct, with the Roc Dancers. Let's stay in the stroll, with that of the stilt walkers from Santa Claus' animal brigade at Place des Otages, not to be missed under any circumstances. A prankster reindeer piloting a sleigh, a narcoleptic gluttonous bear responsible for the sweets, a fox apprentice postman who will collect the mail and Rescousse, the chief elf, will have the mission to amaze the children.

  • 4 Fifteen days of Christmas market

As expected, Place des Otages will also host thirteen wooden chalets, from Saturday December 14 to Saturday December 28 (closed on the 25th), open from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. They will offer seasonal products to taste, including sweets, sausages and other mulled wine, or to admire, such as toys and handcrafted jewelry.

  • 5 Santa's mailbox and big raffle

Santa's mailbox, whose usefulness is no longer in doubt, will also be accessible on the square in front of town hall from this Friday. Please note, missives including the address of young senders must be posted before the 19th!

Furthermore, the approximately 80 members of the Morlaix Nouvelle Vague association will organize a large raffle in December. To win? A year of shopping downtown.
