The computer scientist from SOS Ordi 03, a specialist in computer reconditioning, has formed a partnership with the LE PAL Nature Foundation.
At the head of SOS Ordi 03 since 2006 after having been an executive in a Moulinoise supermarket, Nelly Lacombe likes to have “her hands dirty”. “I had already taken my first computer apart!” she laughs.
Put your skills at the service of sustainable development
Sensitive to ecology, Nelly has made computer reconditioning an important part of her activity. In February 2024, during a discussion with Camille Molinetti, program coordinator at the LE PAL Nature Foundation, the idea of a partnership emerged. “The PAL had started to renew its computer equipment, and around ten central units were stored in a room. Camille offered to collect them to see if I could do something with them”says Nelly. So she brought the computers back to her workshop to test them. “They were good quality computers, which were 6/7 years old, and which deserved to be reconditioned to give them a second life.” Reconditioning consists of changing all the parts that will give the computer a facelift by making it gain memory and operating speed. Nelly then resells the computers to her customers and part of the amount of the sale (40 to 50% on average) is donated to the Le PAL Nature Foundation. At the beginning of November, 4 new PCs and 9 tablets from PAL joined the SOS Ordi 03 workshop. “For tablets it's a little different, I test them to see their operating and updating capabilities and then I resell them used (around €85), but there is no reconditioning possible because we can’t change rooms.”
Listening to its customers
The most important thing for Nelly is to listen to her customers to understand their needs. “When I worked in a supermarket, I had to sell without listening to the customer. I preferred to leave and create my business”. Her signature, as she says, is not to encourage people to buy new things. Once it has perfectly identified the needs and expectations of customers, it offers them equipment that will best suit their use (internet browsing, word processing, video games, photos, etc.). “I buy used computers on professional platforms, which I recondition to offer them to my customers. For a reconditioned computer at €350, you need to count €5 to €600 for its new equivalent”. But Nelly can also take care of its customers' computers to give them a second lease of life.
As long as they are of good quality to begin with!
