EDF Tempo: the first red day is tomorrow, what does that imply?

Tuesday December 3, 2024 is the first red day for consumers who have subscribed to the EDF Tempo option. What impact on electricity prices? Here's everything you need to know.

Tomorrow, Tuesday December 3, 2024, is a special day for subscribers to the EDF Tempo option. As noted by several consumers, this will be the first Tempo red day of the year, over the period from September 1, 2024 to August 31, 2025. We can check it on the dedicated EDF site since 11 a.m. this Monday, December 3 is indeed a red day, from 6 a.m. If you have activated the option recently, you may not yet be fully aware of what EDF Tempo red days entail.

The Tempo option allows you to benefit from a more advantageous electricity rate for 343 days of the year (300 blue days and 43 white). During the other 22 days, the famous red days, which correspond to winter consumption peaks, prices are however significantly higher. Red days occur between November 1 and March 31 (except weekends and public holidays). It is therefore recommended by EDF to significantly reduce your electricity consumption during these red days.

Limit your electricity consumption on red days during peak hours

EDF's Tempo offer operates during peak and off-peak hours, regardless of the “color” of the day. But, on red days, the price per kWh during peak hours is the highest. Consumers are therefore invited to favor off-peak hours on red days for certain activities (for example, running their washing machine from 10 p.m.), anticipate recharging their devices and turn down their heating. “ During peak hours on red days, it is in your best interest to consume less electricity and use an alternative heating method », Explains EDF on its site.

On Tuesday, December 3, the price per kWh during peak hours (from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.) will be €0.76; during off-peak hours, it will be €0.16.

To find out when the next Tempo red days will take place, you can use the EDF&MOI application. You can also track your electricity consumption on this app. It is also possible to receive notifications on Tempo days, the day before for the next day, by email or SMS.
