After the Department's disengagement, what future for Lannion airport?

“In 2024, the airport’s activity has not changed. We are still around 11,000 movements. » By “movements”, André Coënt, president of the Joint Union of Lannion Airport, means takeoffs and landings. 95% of them come from leisure clubs, the remaining 5% are commercial flights. “These commercial flights are remnants of the Lannion- line which stopped in 2018,” he adds. “Even if activity has decreased, we want the site to continue to live. » During the Lannion-Trégor Community (LTC) council meeting on September 24, elected officials marked a turning point in the future of Lannion airport. From December 31, 2026, the airport will be entirely managed by LTC.

The Department will disengage over three years

Concretely, what does that mean? Until now, the management of Lannion airport was entrusted to a joint union of which LTC and the Department were members. They have shared management and financing since the withdrawal of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) of Côtes-d'Armor, in April 2022. “Since the NOTRe law of 2015, transport competence has been transferred to the communities of communities,” explains André Coënt. “The withdrawal of the Department will not happen suddenly, we will disengage over three years. »

Creation of a drone flight test center

The financial participation of the Department will gradually decrease, going from €381,267 (57.33%) in 2024, to €190,633 (40.19%) in 2025, then €95,317 (25.15%) in 2026. During this period, the financial impact will however be “spread out” for LTC, to the tune of €283,733 per year, in drawing the shortfall from the surpluses. “Regarding the debt of €700,000 contracted to extend the runway, the Department will maintain its maturities in accordance with the original contract, until total repayment estimated at 2032.”

In 2027, the joint union will be dissolved. The Agglo will therefore find itself alone in control of the airport, with the ambition of getting it off the ground by focusing in particular on the creation of a drone flight test center. LTC undertakes to take over the employees present on December 31, 2026 within the community or any structure to which the management of the activity would be delegated.

The six employees will change employers

There are currently six of them: four firefighters Aircraft rescue and firefighting service – Prevention of animal danger, an Afis manager (Aerodrome Flight Information Service – air traffic) and full-time ground handling service, an Afis agent and service stopover based on 104 hours per month. “LTC has also hired a project manager to support the recovery of the airport,” explains André Coënt.

According to the elected official, this transfer of skills will have no impact on the project to install photovoltaic shades on the site. “They should be mounted in the parking lot and why on the airport buildings and its grounds. Studies have been launched. »
