Following the repeated floods which struck Boulonnais in November 2023, the elected officials of the Boulonnais urban community had commissioned a study from a firm specializing in hydraulic engineering. The conclusions have just been released.

According to the President of the CAB Frédéric Cuvillier, this study made it possible to highlight the most relevant scenarios for limit the rise of water. The experts' recommendations will allow elected officials to decide what work to do… and what not to do. “Certain actions, which may have seemed common sense, would not necessarily have been effective in limiting flooding, and could even, on the contrary, have aggravated certain phenomena” underlines Frédéric Cuvillier.

Among the first actions that will be implemented: the creation of a flood expansion zone, on the Butel et Saison wasteland, in Isques, or even the creation of a flood evacuation ditch in the Liane area.

Despite this work, certain areas near watercourses will remain exposed to flooding in the event of heavy rain. The Boulonnais agglomeration community will therefore buy houses and land, particularly in Hesdigneul and St Etienne-au-Mont.

Finally, Frédéric Cuvillier calls for better coordination between the different local actors. It provides for the rapid organization ofa public meeting to inform residents.

On social networks, the collective of residents of the Liane believes that this report will “in a good way”. But members are also calling for more significant water slowing systems, to be able to cope with exceptional episodes like those of November 2023.
