Floods in in 2019: how to explain this phenomenon?

On June 25, 2019, a storm of intense rain fell on the municipalities of Saint-Pierre-des-Ifs, Saint-Désir and (). Between midnight and 1 a.m., 55 mm of rain fell in these municipalities, causing significant runoff and the overflow of the Cirieux and its tributaries.

In the morning, streets in part of Saint-Désir and Lisieux were invaded by water and mud; four vehicles were swept away, 121 houses and a school were flooded.

Responses to residents

In order to provide answers to residents and elected officials, the Departmental Directorate of Territories and the Sea (DDTM), in conjunction with elected officials and the Mixed Union of the Touques Watershed, commissioned a design office to reconstruct the event and understand the hydraulic functioning of the Cirieux and its watershed.

A public meeting to present the mechanisms causing this flood and the follow-up will be held on Tuesday December 3, 2024, at 6 p.m., in the large room of the Victor Hugo space in Lisieux, in the presence of elected officials from the municipalities concerned.
