Anthony Drevet: “I never thought I would be a commentator one day… I wanted to be a pilot! »

Hello Anthony. Thank you for taking us for a ride in this sublime Clio Williams! You insisted on doing this Carpool in this car. For what ?

The Williams has always made me dream. My father has had Clios all the time and I currently drive one that once belonged to him. I have this affinity with this car, because I discovered with him at the time when Williams-Renault was winning all the titles! I find this link between the Renault Clio, my family and the sporty side of the Williams. I had never been able to handle it before today, so it's a dream come true! She has just celebrated her 30th birthday. The sensations are incredible: it's not sanitized like in modern cars and I like that.

So this Clio Williams evokes your first memories of motorsport?

The first memory I have is a green car at Spa, in 1991, with sponsor 7Up… and it was Michael Schumacher. However, he hadn't done many laps that day (0. Editor’s note). My second memory is again Schumacher, at Spa, the following year. He drove the yellow Benetton, my favorite color. And facing him, there were the Williams: it was the emblematic duel of that era.

Is Schumi your first idol?

I would even say that it is the only one, it accompanied me throughout my youth. I started watching F1 when he arrived. It's quite crazy to make the parallel, but I watched F1 carefully from 1991 to 2006. From his first title with Benetton (1994. Editor's note) at the height of Ferrari, I experienced this rise with him. Afterwards, I moved to preparatory class in 2006 and no longer had much time to follow the championship. And as luck would have it, that was the moment he announced his retirement. Between F1, Schumi and myself, there was a close relationship.

Is it this passion that gave you
