The Taiwanese army announced that it had deployed fighter planes, ships and anti-missile defense systems for exercises on Thursday (November 28), while its Defense Ministry reported having detected two new Chinese balloons near the island. President Lai Ching-te is preparing his first trip abroad since coming to power.
The president Lai Ching-te promised to defend Taiwan’s democracy in the face of Chinese threats and which Beijing describes as ” dangerous separatist » and must leave the island on Saturday November 30 for his first trip abroad since taking office, according to the presidency. A stopover in the United States has not been ruled out on the sidelines of this trip which will take the leader to the Marshall Islands, Palau and Tuvalu, three micro-states in the Pacific.
Beijing condemned Lai Ching-te’s first foreign trip, which will stop in Hawaii and the American island of Guam in the Pacific. “ We have always opposed official exchanges between the United States and Taiwan (…) and any form of approval and support by the United States of Taiwan separatists. said Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, at a regular press conference.
