A month and a day after the floods which left at least 230 dead in the south of Spain, almost all in the Valencia region, some 100,000 people again took to the streets of Valencia on Saturday November 30 to denounce the management of the flood by the authorities. Main target: Carlos Mazón, the conservative president of the region.
A man lists on the microphone the number of victims per municipality. Out of a total of 230 victims in Spainthe Valencia region mourns 222 and there are four missing.
One of Catarroja’s victims is the mother of Juan José Monrabal, who displays a portrait of her mother. And the resignation of the regional president will not be enough for him. “ I want him, and everyone involved, to go to jail. My mother drowned in her house. She was going to dinner and she didn’t have time. Mr. Mazón and the others filled his stomach with mud. »
Symbolically, the demonstrators sounded an alarm at 8:11 p.m…. the time at which the alert system sounded on mobiles to warn of the flooding, already in progress. Too late then. “ Assassin ! », shouts the crowd.
Norman Ortells has been outraged by the management of the crisis for a month. “ We must call elections because we cannot afford for reconstruction to be taken care of by those who are responsible for these deaths… and for them to distribute the millions among themselves [d’euros]. ».
The crowd observed a minute of silence… but tirelessly chanted their anger against Carlos Mazón for more than two hours.
