Pierre Lellouche deplores the lack of “strategy”

Invited on Monday on the i24NEWS set to comment on the military situation in Israel, Pierre Lellouche, former Secretary of State for European Affairs, expressed a pessimistic point of view on the evolution of operations.

“What is striking is the contrast between the tactical successes on the ground and the absence of strategy. The goal of the war is political, but a war without a goal is inconceivable,” he said.

He added: “After those responsible for the attack on Israel are punished, what’s next? What’s the plan? »

According to him, the risk is that this war will result in a political defeat in the medium term, marked by a total isolation of Israel, “a catastrophic situation for the survival of the Jewish State”.

For the former diplomatic advisor to Jacques Chirac, this strategic impasse stems more from the Israeli political system than from its leaders: “As long as Israeli democracy operates on full proportional representation, it will be impossible to have a government capable of making a fundamental decision on the future of the State, particularly its borders. This remains the central question. Without political consensus, Israel will continue to go in circles. »
