Anderlecht are still not convinced by the qualities of Mads Kikkenborg and hope that nothing happens with Colin Coosemans. During the winter transfer window, Olivier Renard could perhaps seize an opportunity to offer a new understudy to David Hubert.
Olivier Renard and Anderlecht are monitoring a goalkeeper for the winter transfer window. It’s a name that will surprise you, since it is Nawaf Al-Aqidi, the 24-year-old Saudi goalkeeper of Al-Nassr. This is the club in which Cristiano Ronaldo plays. A quick search tells us that his last match dates back to… December 30, 2023.
Then he was disciplinary suspended. And since then, he has not played despite his suspension being lifted last June. In October he suffered a back injury, but since then Al-Nassr has also signed Bento, the Brazilian national team goalkeeper.
Nawaf Al-Aqidi was however widely considered a very good goalkeeper in the Saudi competition and the latter would be keen to discover European football. He could be recruited at a lower cost, since his club should not get in his way too much.
Anderlecht is not alone on the trail of Nawaf Al-Aqidi
Anderlecht are indeed looking for an extra goalkeeper, as Kikkenborg – another signing from Jesper Fredberg – is not making much of an impression. The great Dane has difficulty adapting to the level, even in training. However, he is a popular personality in the group.
The Mauves are looking at the possibility of selling him in January, but there is not much interest. Olivier Renard will give more explanations to fans next week on his projects and his strategy for the transfer window during the traditional Fan Council.
Anderlecht is not the only club interested in Al-Aqidi. Cercle had expressed an interest before defining another target, while Portuguese clubs are monitoring the file. It remains to be seen whether Olivier Renard intends to accelerate the movement.
