The criminal court of Maastricht, in the Netherlands, on Wednesday sentenced Donny M. to 25 years in prison and a release with the obligation to undergo treatment for having kidnapped and committed sexual violence against Gino van der Straeten, a 9-year-old child, before killing him.
Gino disappeared on June 1 in Kerkrade, in the Dutch province of Limburg. The police arrested Donny M., then aged 22, three days later. He admitted to having kidnapped the boy and committed sexual violence against him, at his home in Geleen (Dutch Limburg), before killing him. Based on information from Donny M., the child’s body was found behind a burned house, a stone’s throw from the attacker’s home.
The court also found the defendant guilty of violating the sexual integrity of a 17-year-old boy, and of having produced, distributed and possessed images of sexual violence against minors.
The Dutch prosecutor’s office had requested 28 years in prison and release with the obligation to undergo treatment.
