Billy Woods, a revered name in Cork Football, has officially been appointed as the new Head of Football at Midleton FC, a team playing in the Munster Senior League.
The ex-Republic of Ireland Under-21 star will lead player development initiatives, coaching strategies and oversee long-term planning at Knockgriffin Park, the club’s home ground.
Woods’ role places emphasis on improving the club’s existing infrastructure and developing young talent, positioning Midleton for continued success.
Last season was monumental for Midleton as they won the Munster Senior League Premier Division title for the first time in six years. They also triumphed against Carrigaline United in the O’Connell Cup final, completing a remarkable double in East Cork.
This season the Magpies have got off to a flying start, successfully qualifying for the knockout stages of the FAI Intermediate Cup, where they will face 2020 finalists Killester Donneycarney at Hadden Park in Dublin.

In their quest to defend their Premier Division title, they are currently competing at the top of the table, battling alongside formidable opponents such as Avondale United, Ringmahon Rangers, Rockmount, and College Corinthians.
Midleton also reached the semi-finals of the Donie Forde Trophy, although they were disappointed with a 2–0 defeat to Ringmahon Rangers at Knockgriffin Park.
Note that the club has produced many alumni who have joined League of Ireland academies, including Ben Dumigan with the Cork City U15 team.
Woods’ focus will encompass all aspects of the club, which is proudly celebrating its 50th anniversary with approximately 1,000 members.
