Last night's Champions League results: Goals and surprises galore –

The first night of matchday five of the UEFA Champions League was marked by goals galore, surprise comebacks and tough wins and defeats that could cement their teams in the highest and lowest parts of the table.

The day opened with Atlético Madrid's biggest away hammering in Europe, 6-0 against Sparta Praha. The Czech team falls, perhaps inevitably, out of the top 24. Simeone, who has just celebrated his 700th match as Atleti manager, secures an almost guaranteed ticket to the play-offs.

The same number of goals was achieved by Atalanta (6-1 victory against the worst team of this year, Young Boys), which enters the top 5, as well as Bayer Leverkusen, which crushed Salzburg 5-0 .

Also in the middle of the table are Milan, who beat Slovan Bratislava 3-2 and correct their poor start by stringing together three consecutive victories. Inter (who beat Leipzig 1-0) and Barcelona (3-0 against ) are the provisional leaders by continuing their winning streak.

Then, the three surprises of the evening: Sporting Lisboa, one of the strongest teams so far, painfully lost 1-5 against Arsenal. Manchester City made headlines again by going from a 3-0 lead to 3-3 in the last fifteen minutes against Feyenoord. The Dutch team gets a point worth its weight in gold.

Finally, the most famous match of the evening, Bayern München against Saint-Germain, went to the German team 1-0. Both teams needed a win, but particularly Paris, who fell out of the top 24.
