The month of November isn't over yet but the information clearly couldn't wait: Threads has in fact just confirmed a very strong growth in the number of its users over the month of November, still in progress, i.e. 35 million new registrations (i.e. still more than a million registrations per day on average over the last three months ) ! In mid-November, the CEO ofInstagram, Adam Mosseri, announced 15 million subscriptions for the month, and the CEO of Meta, Mark Zuckerberglater revealed that the app had surpassed 275 million monthly active users. In comparison, rival platform Bluesky, despite its rapid growth and positive public reception, only has 20 million users overall – a score achieved by Threads… just 2′ hours after the launch of the service.
In response to competition from Bluesky, Threads began adding features similar to its competitor, such as personalized feeds or the ability to change the default feed for the people you follow. Mosseri himself acknowledged that these updates have accelerated due to increasing competitive pressure. Meta appears determined to dominate the short-form and text-based social media space, positioning Threads as the successor to X, the latter of which faces widespread criticism for lack of moderation or the proliferation of toxic content.
