A fire broke out this morning in a laundry room at 32, chemin du Bois-des-Frères, in the town of Vernier. Firefighters arrived on site at 11:46 a.m., when smoke had spread to adjoining offices. SIS spokesperson Nicolas Millot reports that on site, firefighters “noticed a significant amount of smoke emanating from the ground floor and 1st floor of the building”.

The firefighters notably rescued a person still stuck on the 1st floor, using an extension ladder. The two other occupants of the premises had already evacuated the building when emergency services arrived. “In total, the three people were taken care of by the ambulance crews on site, without requiring transport to the HUG,” specifies the spokesperson.

The fire was brought under control around 12:45 p.m., thanks to the use of a water hose. The laundry room that caused the fire is unusable. In all, 20 professional firefighters were mobilized with 5 engines, as well as 3 ambulances, a resuscitation car and officers from the municipal and cantonal police.
