“We are overwhelmed by significant demand, especially over the last ten days. Countries like Poland, Hungary and France ask us for large volumes of clementines. Many operators call us, eager to receive our product, but we are often unable to fully guarantee quantities, as we are unable to grade and package the fruit for all customers in time before the trucks arrive “, says Daniele Martucci of Martucci Srl, a company that deals with the processing and marketing of citrus fruits and which has five local clementine producers, as well as 20 other small farms.

“Currently, in one working day, we are able to process a maximum of 40 pallets. We start the shift at 6 a.m., with 24 employees. It is difficult to find new staff to extend teams. Our main customers, to whom we each send three pallets per week, are the Polish companies Figiel from Krakow and Karo from Katowice. »

The climate seems favorable, with an adequate temperature range between day and night. The negative point remains the size. This year, the majority of production is caliber 3 and 4.
“Aware of the smaller than expected calibers, generated by the hot and dry weather, foreign buyers are the most numerous. However, consumption is holding up. We carry out extremely careful work, selecting the right fruits in terms of maturity and appearance. If we went faster, we could easily reach 2 trucks per day and satisfy greater demand. We just hope it doesn't rain incessantly in the coming weeks. »
