Tensions rise Burkina Faso. Several villages on the outskirts of Solenzo, located in the Boucle du Mouhoun region, have suffered deadly terrorist attacks in recent days. The population can no longer tolerate the growing insecurity. She calls for peace from the authorities.
This Monday, November 25, 2024, the city of Solenzo was the scene of violent demonstrations. Residents, exasperated by the deterioration of the security situation, expressed their anger at the perceived inaction of the defense and security forces (FDS). One event particularly aroused their anger: the deadly attack against a position of the Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland (VDP) on Thursday, November 21. Despite the alerts issued, the attackers were able to act with impunity, killing 15 volunteers.
Faced with rising insecurity, the populations of Solenzo decided to demonstrate. Despite calls for calm from administrative and traditional authorities, the anger was stronger. The demonstrators targeted the head of the canton, accused of not having sufficiently defended their interests. Unfortunately, the situation turned into a tragedy. The canton chief’s home was destroyed, his wives attacked and he himself was killed. In an attempt to restore order, the defense and security forces had to intervene and a curfew was established.
Already facing jihadist attacks, the Burkina Faso now faces the anger of the population. Attacks and exits multiply. Last July, some residents of Bogandé, a department of Gnagna province in the Eastern region, took to the streets to demand more security. People feel abandoned and trust in the authorities is deteriorating.
