The month of December 2024 arrives with its share of changes for the French. Between the rise in gas prices, medical consultations and some good news like the increase in salaries in the hotel and restaurant industry, here is everything you need to know to anticipate these changes.
Gas prices continue to rise
This is a hard blow for French households. According to the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE),The benchmark gas sales price will increase by 2.5% on average from December 1, 2024. For gas users for heating, the cost of a kilowatt hour (kWh) will increase from €0.1093 to €0.1124, an increase of 2.8%.
This is the sixth increase of the year 2024, a real headache for budgets already under pressure. To reduce the bill, the CRE recommends comparing energy offers and optimizing consumption using more economical equipment.
Consultations with a general practitioner or specialist will cost more from December 22, 2024. The price will increase from €26.50 to €30 for adults and from €31.50 to €35 for children under six years old.. This revaluation results from the agreement signed on June 4, 2024 between Health Insurance and doctors’ unions to further recognize the value of their work. At the same time, consultations with certain specialists, such as pediatricians or neurologists, will also experience similar increases.
An increase in salaries in the hotel industry and the end of aid for clean vehicles
Good news for hotel and restaurant employees. From December 1, 2024, their salaries will be revised upwards. The conventional minimum wage for step 1 of level I is now set at €12.00 gross per hour, compared to €11.88, i.e. a slight excess of the minimum wage.
Finally, bad news for the inhabitants of Île-de-France. Regional aid for the purchase of a “clean” vehicle, which could reach €9,000, will disappear from December 1. This measure concerned individuals with modest incomes residing in certain departments such as Seine-et-Marne or Val-d’Oise.
