In , consumer prices are stable in October, but up 1.5% year-on-year

In October 2024, the consumer price index is stable in . But over one year, inflation increases more in Reunion (+1.5%) than at the national level (+1.2%). This is the result of the latest study published by INSEE.

The regional branch of INSEE, the Institute national statistics and economic studies, has just published its latest study relating to the household consumer price index for the month of October 2024 in Reunion.

It appears that the consumer price index is stable in the department, while a decline of 0.8% was noted in September. Over one year, on the other hand, inflation increases more in Reunion (+1.5%) compared to the national level (+1.2%). The fact remains that this remains much lower than at the start of the year when it exceeded 4%.

In detail for this month of October, prices of services are increasing (+0.5%), after falling in September (-0.3%).

While the prices of health and communications services are stable, the increase in prices is driven by that of rents, water, and household waste collection (+0.8%), that of transport services (+0.2% ), and that of other services (+0.7%).

Food prices remain stable after a drop of 0.4% in September. Those of fresh products fell again (-1.7%), while those of other food products increased (+0.3%).

Prices of manufactured products also remained stable after the sales period (-1.4% in September). Prices of clothing and shoes are rising again (+0.4%).

No increase or decrease for health products on the other hand, while the prices of other manufactured products decreased very slightly (-0.2%).

Energy prices fell sharply again (-2.5% after -2.1% in September), under the effect of the increasing decline in the prices of petroleum products (-4.6%): their prices are thus at their lowest since the start of 2022.

The price of a liter of gasoline falls by 6 cents and that of diesel by 7 cents. Those of electricity and gas bottles, still benefiting from local aid, are stable. Tobacco prices fell by 0.3%.
