Tribute to victims of Thailand bus fire

A tribute was paid Monday morning in Pathum Thani in memory of the 23 victims of the tragic fire in a coach on October 1. Among the missing were 20 students and 3 teachers.

Organized by Kamronwit Toopkrajang, chairman of the Pathum Thani provincial administrative organization, the ceremony resulted in the temporary closure of a section of the Vibhavadi Rangsit Road. Many participants gathered to express their pain and solidarity, joined by the Minister of the Interior, Anutin Charnvirakul, who came to support the bereaved families.

The victims, from Wat Khao Phraya Sangkharam School, were on a day-long school excursion to Ayutthaya and Bangkok. They were traveling on the second coach of a convoy of three vehicles, rented from the Chinnaboot Tour company, based in Sing Buri.

The tragedy unfolded when the coach caught fire, trapping many passengers inside. The fire, which spread quickly, made any attempt at evacuation impossible.

The authorities have launched an investigation to determine the causes of this tragedy. Initial investigations revealed that the vehicle had been converted to run on natural gas, with tanks added illegally.
