Swave the scriptures
Jacob (…) noticed that Esau was arriving with 400 men. (…) Esau ran to meet him, hugged him, threw himself around his neck and kissed him. And they cried.
Genesis 33.1-4
Jacob had every reason to be worried. Years before, he had stolen the birthright of his brother, Esau, and withdrawn his blessing. As a result, Esau desired to kill Jacob, forcing him to flee to a far country.
Years later, as Jacob returned home, he was filled with anxiety and fear, and carefully prepared himself to face Esau’s reaction. However, when the two brothers met again, the animosity and anger seemed to have disappeared. The bitter memories seemed forgotten. Both were crying when they kissed. Whatever their past, they have been restored.
How easy it is to let the wounds of words and actions fester! Over the years, emotions can take over our lives and poison our hearts and minds. The Bible tells us that God wants us to be reconciled with others and to live in harmony and peace. He wants us to understand that he can help us set free.
Jesus even taught that before we bring our offering and approach Him in prayer, we must be reconciled to our brother (Matthew 5:23-24).
Ask God to show you if you need to reconcile with certain people. Maybe an old friend or relative? Someone from your work or your church? Remember, Jesus taught us to pray:Forgive us our trespasses, as we also forgive those who trespass against us.” (Matthieu 6.12).
May this day be one of reconciliation and forgiveness!
Elisten to the voice of God
Do you have difficulty forgiving people who have wronged you? Take the time to listen to what God wants to say to you about this.
Praying is simple. Talk to God like you would your closest friend. God loves you and he can hear everything. Here is an example of a prayer: “Father, show me if there are people I need to reconcile with. Help me restore broken relationships. Thank you for forgiving me. In the name of Jesus, amen.“
Louer God
To praise God is to show him our gratitude. Today, take some time to thank the Lord. The Bible says that if the Son sets us free, we are truly free. He has certainly freed you from situations similar to Jacob’s. Why not praise him for that?
Aact today
Now, what can you do to apply what God has told you? If, during your listening time, He has shown you a person or people with whom you need to reconcile, you could begin by praying for them. Then ask God for the strength to act accordingly.
Hhonor the Lord
Our journey for the day ends. Let us pray together to honor our God.
“Heavenly Father, you are the God of all reconciliation, you heal us from our wounds and you make us live in peace. Yours be the kingdom, the power and the glory, amen !”
