Emergency calls – Road traps and fires: firefighters on the bridge – Emergency calls

At the barracks, the 140 firefighters are on the job. Every night, they have to deal with mysterious car fires: isolated vehicles in the countryside but also in city parking lots. This spectacular black streak even affects previously quiet neighborhoods. Sometimes it takes on a dramatic dimension, with fires risking spreading to houses. And the firefighters have no shortage of sensitive interventions. With 43 deaths per year, the departmental roads are tricky, leaving the road is unforgiving: head-on collisions, cars stuck in impenetrable hedges, it is often necessary to call for reinforcements from the “Rescue-Clearance” team. An elite unit specializing in dangerous rescues, particularly at stud farms to save horses mired in quicksand or extricate motorists whose life is in danger. A hectic daily life punctuated by more than 25 outings per day because the Caen barracks are one of the most requested emergency centers in Normandy.
