This Monday, November 25, the public prosecutor requested 20 years of imprisonment against Dominique Pélicot. Following this announcement, the First Lady spoke for the first time regarding the rapes in Mazan to BFMTV.
“This trial is essential”declared Brigitte Macron on BFMTV this Monday, November 25, having just returned from her official trip to Latin America. This is the first time that she has spoken out about the rapes suffered by Gisèle Pélicot. That same day, the public prosecutor requested 20 years of imprisonment against Dominique Pélicot, the main accused and husband of the victim. This is the maximum sentence he can face for drugging, raping and having his wife raped by several men. It is in this context that Brigitte Macron brought her “unconditional support for all women” before adding: “It's true that we see me more in the realm of childhood and adolescence, but I am with all women in all battles. Everywhere we go in the world, we see how much we have to fight, because rights are falling further and further behind”.
The statement by the wife of the President of the Republic comes on a symbolic day, since November 25 is the international day for the elimination of violence against women. “Things had to be said and they are”she confides about this trial which shocked the whole world. “I want to tell them how much the president and I stand in solidarity with them and we will help them as much as possible. We have to be there and be vigilant”she explained while attending the presentation of the 6th Endowment Fund prize.

Required sentences ranging from 10 to 20 years for the rapists of Gisèle Pélicot
One month before the verdict in the Mazan rape trial, the prosecution announced the sentences required for all the accused who attacked and raped Gisèle Pélicot between 2011 and 2020. While her husband faces the maximum sentence of 20 years of imprisonment, between 10 and 13 years were requested for the fifty other men sitting in the dock. Only Joseph C. risks a short imprisonment, because he is the only one not to be tried for aggravated rape, but for sexual assault. He faces up to 4 years in prison. Judgment is expected to take place no later than December 20.
