Country of Montbéliard. Mystery surrounding the death of a trucker on an A36 rest area

No signs of struggle. Neither in the snow, nor on the body. But some traces of blood, at the nose and ear. Certainly not blatant, but sufficient to maintain doubt around the circumstances of the death of this Moldovan truck driver, found this Sunday morning, between two heavy goods vehicles, by one of his counterparts, this one French, on the rest area. Écot on the edge of the A36.

Meeting with a colleague

The 40-year-old victim, traveling in the south-north direction, had probably reached here during the day on Saturday, driving a truck without a trailer.

History of joining a colleague, of Moldovan nationality like him, and employee of the same Polish transport company. Which, for its part, had been parked there since Thursday given the traffic restrictions due to the snow episode.

Drinking evening

The two comrades clearly had a heavy hand on the drink during their evening on Saturday. If we are to believe the empty whiskey bottle and the beer corpses littering the ground near the remains of the deceased. Which was located at the foot of the passenger door of the cabin of his colleague's heavy goods vehicle, a door on which other traces of blood were observed. And it is in this cabin that the two truckers seem to have spent the evening, a witness having seen them return from the station installed at this rest area with their arms loaded with food around 10 p.m. on Saturday.

Still 1 g of alcohol in the blood the next day

What happened next? With still more than 1 gram of alcohol in his blood at the end of Sunday morning, the victim's traveling companion was not able to be heard before the end of the day. But it is under police custody that the hearing of this 37-year-old man will be conducted. Because the gray areas surrounding this death led the Montbéliard prosecutor, Paul-Edouard Lallois, to open proceedings for intentional homicide.

Autopsy this Monday

If the gendarmerie's criminal investigation technicians were hard at work all day, it is even more the results of the autopsy of the victim, found dressed but barefoot with open shoes nearby having every chance to be his own, which should prove decisive. Expected this Monday, they should indeed shed light on the causes of death. And perhaps give a purely accidental direction to this case in which the investigators of the Montbéliard gendarmerie research brigade do not, as it stands, have any witnesses.
