Toll-free number dedicated to legal advice

The lawyer receives more and more women in his office, for various violence. She explains: “This is one of the problems, that is to say that there is insidious violence, there is psychological violence, there is physical violence and then there is the violence that we talk about a lot, which is the violence sexual. But there is a range of violence which is very wide in reality. And in our offices, women come to echo all these types of violence.”

She recalls that victims can benefit from legal aid and she encourages them to request it. “Women who think they do not have the necessary means to access justice must not hesitate to come to our offices because they can benefit from state assistance allowing them to access all the services and the services of a lawyer.”

Sophie Coq has also, with her counterparts at the bar, set up a special, free toll-free number, the 0 801 07 07 08to respond and advise women victims of violence. There is also a national number, the 39 19.

86% of complaints for sexual violence dismissed

Francine, listener of France Bleu Occitanie, wanted to share her experience. She suffered domestic violence 24 years ago and says: “I went to therapy, I took on a lot of work, I rebuilt my life, but we are no longer the same because the body does not forget, even if we are placed in a corner.

She also adds “better to leave late than never” and remembers: “At first, I was asked, but what did you do to your husband? That’s what the gendarmes told me because it wasn’t recognized at the time and Sir, he had the right to come home with the children.

According to a recent study, 86% of cases of sexual violence are closed without further action. The lawyer explains that “it is the public prosecutor’s office which is responsible for prosecutions and it is the public prosecutor’s office which looks at the data in the file brought to its attention, which first checks whether the facts are not prescribed“. For her, a classification without action is not an end in itself, if the elements are sufficient, there is nevertheless the possibility of file a complaint before the investigating judge.

Lawyer Sophie Coq reacts: “I dare to hope that no woman will ever again be received in a police station or gendarmerie with comments of the type that were attributed to this lady.“She also greets.”the liberation of women’s voices“.

The judge can pronounce a protection orderthe protection period will also be shortened. It will also soon make it possible to shelter a woman in imminent danger within 24 hours. “Don’t be afraid to walk through the doors of our office“, insists the lawyer. “Among the measures that the judge can take, we can hide the address of the victim, who can be domiciled at his lawyer’s office.
