€10.16/kg. A level never reached, a symbolic bar was crossed, in week 46, by the weighted average price of lambs at the slaughterhouse entry stage published by FranceAgriMer. The price has increased by more than one euro per kilo since August.

Sharp seasonal decline in lamb production
“A few weeks before the end-of-year holidays, the seasonal drop in production – more marked this year – is pushing prices upwards,” write Idele analysts. It must be said that the supply is limited. Slaughterings fell by 5% over the first 3 quarters compared to the same period last year, and even by 13% compared to the five-year average.

The question of maintaining demand also raises questions in view of the prices reached. While the sector worked to rejuvenate its fans by adapting its offering, some consumers risk turning away from lamb meat.
