Microsoft confirms that its update crashes some Ubisoft games

The latest major update to Microsoft's operating system prevents several titles published by Ubisoft from functioning properly. The affected games no longer launch and only display a black screen.

The 24H2 update of Windows 11 is affected by a new wave of bugs which mainly concerns gamers. Installing Windows 11 24H2 does not go well with certain Ubisoft games. Microsoft has now confirmed the issue and indicated that some titles may fail to start, fail to load, or stop mid-game to display a black screen.

Microsoft pauses its update for gamers playing affected games

In total, five games published by Ubisoft are affected: Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Assassin's Creed Origins, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Regarding the game Star Wars Outlaws, on the other hand, Ubisoft has obviously already published a patch which would limit the problem, without however completely correcting it.

Faced with the number of users affected by this umpteenth bug, Microsoft has decided to pause the deployment of its update on the machines concerned.

« To protect your Windows Update experience, we have applied a compatibility hold on devices where these games are installed. These devices will not be offered the installation of Windows 11, version 24H2 via the Windows Update release channel. » indicates Microsoft on the page reporting known bugs associated with its update.

The Redmond company obviously suggests not trying to force the installation of the operating system update manually if you are using one of these games. While waiting for a patch to be released to resolve the problem, Microsoft explains that users who are affected by a game suddenly becoming unresponsive can force it to close from the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc). All you then need to do is right-click on the game from the Processes tab and then click on End task to force the game to close.

« Ubisoft and Microsoft are working on a resolution and will provide more information when it becomes available » says Microsoft on its website.

Since the start of its deployment at the beginning of October, and despite several tests with Insider members, the Windows 11 24H2 update has been a real bug festival. The latest major update to Microsoft's operating system has caused many users to experience BSODs, Wi-Fi problems, and even malfunctions with the Windows clipboard.
