Sadness and amazement this Sunday, November 24, 2024 in thehuge zoological park Pairi Daizain Belgium. An incident between two animals occurred and unfortunately ended with the death of a black bear. While the public witnessed part of the scene, the park explained itself on social networks.
A black bear killed by another animal in Pairi Daiza, Belgium
These are in fact two black bears that started violently fighting in their enclosure, first in front of the eyes of numerous visitors.
“In accordance with our protocols, our teams intervened quickly. The area was emptied of visitors so that they would not visually witness this violent fight,” comments the park.
In an attempt to end the conflict, blank bullets were then used by the shooting team. Sound detonations which have “no physical impact” according to the park, their objective being solely to distract the animals’ attention.
But nothing worked and the two behemoths continued to battle each other despite everything and one of them unfortunately died as a result of his injuries.
“Clashes between bears are natural behaviors that we sometimes observe in wild life” reminds the park although this situation deeply saddens all of the Pairi Daiza teams. “At the very front line are the keepers who do everything to provide a living environment adapted to each of the animals,” says the park.
A decidedly difficult week for the immense park which was affected by flooding on Tuesday November 19.
