While the Montreal Canadiens were booed by their fans at the Bell Center for their shameful performance against the Vegas Golden Knights, several CH prospects stood out.
Indeed, several of them brought smiles back to Habs supporters after a tough, tasteless defeat.
Here is a report on the performances of the CH hopefuls who caught the attention.
NCAA – Michael Hage – Center – 18 years old
Generally, when a team drafts more than one player in the first round of a draft, it is mainly the first player drafted who receives attention, and whose performance is analyzed and closely monitored.
The hope or hopes drafted further in the first round are therefore a little in the shadows, as was the case for Filip Mesar with Juraj Slafkovsky.
But this time, it’s different, while despite all the attention that Ivan Demidov rightly receives, Michael Hage manages to make a lot of talk about him every week with his excellent performances in the NCAA.
Indeed, Hage stands out in almost every one of his matches, and this weekend was no different.
After scoring two goals on Friday, Hage added more last night by scoring no less than five points.
The CH prospect was able to collect a goal and four assists in a completely crazy match won by the University of Michigan by a score of 10 to 6 against the University of Penn State.
What’s craziest about all of this is that Hage finished his night with a -4 differential, given that he scored all five of his points on the power play.
In short, Hage is on fire in the NCAA, having just had a seven-point weekend in two games.
That now gives him 16 points (eight goals and eight assists) in 11 games, which is truly impressive for an NCAA rookie.
Hage is really doing his best to increase the enthusiasm for him among CH supporters, who are all eager to see him arrive in Montreal.
AHL – Joshua Roy – Right Winger – 21 years old / Jared Davidson – Center – 22 years old
The Laval Rocket is having quite a start to the season at the moment, largely thanks to the club’s young players.
The team’s success is closely linked to the excellent performances of Joshua Roy, Owen Beck, Logan Mailloux and Jared Davidson of this world, without forgetting Alex Barré-Boulet and the two goalkeepers, Jakub Dobes and Connor Hughes.
Last night, the Rocket was in action against the Belleville Senators, as Pascal Vincent’s squad tried to end its first consecutive losing streak (2 defeats in a row).
It was mission accomplished, as the Rocket won 3 to 1, thanks to three points from Joshua Roy and two goals from Jared Davidson.
This is Roy’s goal.
And here are the two goals from Davidson, who once again demonstrates how good a wrist shot he has.
With their goals, Roy and Davidson lead the Rocket in scoring with eight goals each.
And when it comes to points, Roy is at the top with 16 points in 17 games, while Davidson is fifth with 11 points in 14 games.
Honestly, Roy clearly deserves a call-up with the Canadian because he is currently dominating in the American League.
And even Davidson deserves a chance in the NHL by the end of the season, as he continues to develop and improve.
But with the imminent returns to play of Patrik Laine and Rafaël Harvey-Pinard, Roy and Davidson risk remaining at the bottom, which is not a bad thing considering that the Rocket is rolling very well.
Europe – SHL – Oliver Kapanen – Center – 21 ans
Since his return to Sweden, Kapanen has done very well with Timra IK, with four assists in four games.
He will really be one to watch next season, when he risks really landing a stable position in the NHL with the Montreal Canadiens.
He showed great things in 12 games in the NHL before returning to Sweden.
