The vice-president of the Union for the Republic (UPR), responsible for mission and relations with youth movements and associations, Jeff Gaël Apanga, in a press conference held on Saturday November 23 in Libreville, expressed his satisfaction for the victory of “Yes” in the referendum which took place in Gabon on November 16.
“Yes symbolizes much more than a choice: it represents collective adherence to fundamental values such as social justice, good governance and sustainable development; voting yes was to say yes to stronger institutions, greater transparency and a better future for all Gabonese people”welcomes Mr. Apanga.
Against the supporters of the no vote who “are trying to give themselves a second political life around abstention”, the Republican Jeff Gaël Apanga, said that this approach constitutes a gross lie which does not honor its authors.
“Abstention is not an expression of vote, the rejection of the constitutional vote was noted during the referendum vote by the no, it is 8.20%; those who are against this constitutional text have clearly expressed themselves,” he pointed out.
“Yes” triumphed in the 2024 referendum in Gabon with 91% against 8% for “No”. The participation rate is 53%. A victory which approves the new Gabonese constitution which now establishes a strong presidential regime with limited prerogatives and balanced powers, according to the specialties of constitutional law.
