The City of Moutier should form the 4th district of the canton of Jura and have 7 seats out of 60 in Parliament from 2026. After counting 26 municipalities out of 50, the Jura residents accepted by more than 80% on Sunday this modification of the cantonal Constitution.
The integration of the City of Moutier and its 7,200 inhabitants into the canton of Jura is therefore about to materialize with this vote. This modification of the cantonal Constitution was not contested. For the moment, the yes obtains 4810 votes against 1147.
The city will form a constituency for election to Parliament and will elect 7 deputies out of 60 in elections in autumn 2025 for a five-year legislature. The other three districts will see their delegation lose weight: Delémont will lose 4 elected officials, Porrentruy 2 and Franches-Montagnes 1.
