November, the month heralding winter and gray weather, is also the month of remembrance. Over the decades and through discussions or exchanges between municipalities, we had become almost certain that the plaque on the municipality's monument was, perhaps, incomplete. Flore Boyer, mayor of the town, had contacted Souvenir Français, which has the names of the victims of the conflicts, the place of their birth, and the date and place of their sacrifice.

For the commune of Beauregard-et-Bassac, there were nine missing. Memory must not fail and must be transmitted through generations. It is in this sense that the children of the school were involved in this necessary work. The town hall having made the civil status archives available to them, we were able to find the places where these soldiers had lived, their profession or that of their parents, their regiment of assignment and the place of their death.

Duty of remembrance accomplished, the new plaque was affixed to the monument, solemnly unveiled by the sub-prefect and the mayor of the town. The children read the story of these soldiers in front of a collected crowd, and a large number of standard bearers. Following this dignified moment, we talked at length, under the shelter of the village hall.
