This new function will also be particularly useful for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. According to WhatsApp, it should be rolled out “globally in the coming weeks”. Only a few languages will be affected by this update. On Android, English, Spanish, Portuguese and Russian are available. For French, you will still have to wait “a few months”. On iOS, more languages are already rolling out, including French, German and Japanese.
Protected transcriptions
The feature should be enabled in the app settings. Once activated, simply long press on a voice message and select “transcribe”. The transcriptions may, however, prove to be inaccurate, specifies WhatsApp.
Already encrypting messages end-to-end, messaging ensures that the transcription will remain protected and only generated on the personal device. “No one, not even WhatsApp, can listen to your voice messages or see the contents of their transcriptions. »
