The village of Ollolai, nestled in the heart of Sardinia in Italy, is seeking to attract Americans considering leaving their country in the face of Donald Trump's return to the presidency.
The Americans, the first concerned
On its website, the village writes: “Are you exhausted from global politics? Are you looking to live a more balanced lifestyle while offering yourself new opportunities? It's time to start planning your European getaway to the beautiful paradise that is Sardinia“. Reportedly then offers houses for one dollar. In comments reported by the media as 20 MinutesMayor Francesco Columbu explains to CNN: “We really want the Americans to be the first to be affected, and we are going to focus on them”. With a population reduced to 1,150 souls, compared to 2,250 a century ago, Reportedly seeks to revitalize itself.
The elected official created a dedicated team to support buyers, from the choice of houses to the formalities. The site has already received more than 38,000 additional requests for information, mainly American.

For some time…
For several years, Reportedly multiplies initiatives to attract new residents. In 2018, the town hall began selling abandoned houses for a symbolic 1 euro, before extending the offer to work premises for the same price. More recently, a program was launched for digital nomads, allowing four Americans to live in equipped accommodation for 1 euro in exchange for an artistic or cultural contribution.
However, the results remain disappointing: only ten houses have been renovated since 2018. Francesco Columbu points out that around a hundred inexpensive houses are still available, in addition to ready-to-occupy properties, from 100,000 euros.
