The body of a baby was found in a field in the Manchester region, United Kingdom, local police reported Wednesday, November 20. His identity remains unknown at this time.

“Sadly, today (Wednesday) the remains of what we believe to be a baby were found on Ravenscraig Street in Salford,” police said.

“At this time, we are following several leads and we are working with several local actors to try to determine who this child is, how long he was there and how he unfortunately died,” said law enforcement.

“The smallest detail can be crucial”

According to the BBC, the child's body was found on Wednesday around 1:30 p.m. time by a woman who was walking her dog. An autopsy is planned in the coming days to determine the circumstances of the baby's death. The sex, age and origin of the child are currently unknown, as is the date of his death.

“Investigations must be carried out with the greatest care and will take time,” police warned, nicknamed the child “baby A”.

“The most important thing for us now is to find out what happened to Baby A and I would like to strongly urge anyone with information to contact us. Even the smallest detail can be crucial to investigations”, called the investigators.

After the announcement of this tragic discovery, local residents placed flowers and stuffed animals in the area in tribute to the young child.

“Investigations continue,” investigators assured Thursday, thanking nearby residents for “their support.” “Our hearts go out to Baby A and we will do everything in our power to get answers,” they vowed.
