After a five-day trial, a mother was found guilty of the violence that led to the death of her daughter. She was sentenced by the Northern Assize Court to 18 years of criminal imprisonment this Wednesday, November 20, 2024, reports The Voice of the North . The little girl, barely a year old, was found dead after being beaten in 2016 in Louvroil, where her parents lived.
Reprieve for three other family members
She had around twenty bruises on her body, head trauma and cerebral edema, says local radio. Canal FM . The trial was about determining who had hit the child and who had given him “one blow too many”in the words of the general advocate, cited by The Voice of the North. Everything seemed to accuse the mother, who would have changed her version several times since the death of her child, reports the local daily.
The three other people who appeared this Wednesday received lesser sentences. The grandmother and grandfather were respectively sentenced to one year and six months in prison, both suspended, for failing to report the mistreatment of the baby. The child's stepfather was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison, suspended, for the same facts.
