Cyrille Melchior denounces a “doubly criminal act”

It is with a deep feeling of bitterness that I learned of the fire that occurred this Thursday, November 21 in the refectory on the grounds of the Collège Mahé de La Bourdonnais in Saint-Denis (Photo: www.imazpress.com)

I firmly condemn this act of criminal origin – according to the first elements of the investigation – which caused significant material damage and which undermines the efforts made by the Community to allow the 350 half-board students to eat in the best conditions throughout the school year.

I salute the intervention of the firefighters, the police and all the rescue teams which made it possible to limit the extent of the damage: unlike the completely destroyed catering area, the kitchen equipment was not damaged. were not destroyed by the flames.

We trust the competent authorities to bring to justice the perpetrators of this doubly criminal act. Indeed, the disaster not only caused considerable material damage but also risks impacting the tranquility, security and integrity of the educational community.

I would like to express my total and complete solidarity with the students, educational staff and parents. The Departmental Council remains at your side to overcome these challenges and will do everything possible to restore the situation as quickly as possible.
