Three days after the ouster of coach Sasa Obradovic, AS Monaco won its first match of the season against ASVEL (103-92). Indeed, the Rhone residents led a victory to zero in their direct confrontations this season, after their victory in the championship on October 6. Guided by Elie Okobo (27 points on 9/12 shots, including 3/4 3-pointers, 6 assists, 3 rebounds and 6 fouls caused for 36 evaluations in 26 minutes), the Roca Team took the upper hand in the second half despite the visitors' exceptional 3-point address (14/20) this Thursday, November 21 at the Gaston Médecin room.
14/20 at 3-points but 20 lost balls for ASVEL
To win, AS Monaco pulled away in the third quarter (37-24). Hung by ASVEL in the first half (38-40), the fault of the 3-point address of the band of Pierric Poupet but also of Théo Maledon (1.93 m, 23 years old), Monaco reacted after returning to the locker room. The Norman leader was again productive (24 points on 7/9 shooting, 2 rebounds, 8 assists and 7 fouls caused for 30 evaluation in 33 minutes) but like his team he lost well too many balloons. He lost 8 on his own and his team, with 20 turnovers, fueled the Monegasque transition game. Enough to lose ground by letting six opposing players reach the 10-point mark and the entire team register 65 points after the break.
In the standings, Monaco moved to the top of the table with a seventh victory in 11 matches. For its part, ASVEL remains stuck at the bottom of the hierarchy with an eighth setback. Both teams will be able to take advantage of a weekend off, due to the international break, to recharge their batteries. For Monaco, it will also probably be an opportunity to take a breather before welcoming a new coach, who will probably be Vassilis Spanoulis.
