Vivian Silver, a Canadian-born resident of Kibbutz Beeri and well-known peace activist, was murdered in her home during the pogrom carried out by the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas on October 7, 2023 in southern Israel. She will be honored with an award created by her family and friends, the Vivian Silver Impact Award, through the New Israel Fund.
Aged 74, Vivian was known as the founder of Kibbutz Gezer, initiator of Women Wage Peace and close to Bedouin activist Amal Alsana-Alhjooj, leader of the Jewish-Arab Center for Equality, Empowerment and Cooperation in the Negev. She was also a board member of the New Israel Fund.
For over a month, she was declared missing and believed to have been captured and held hostage in Gaza. But on November 14, his family confirmed that his remains had finally been identified using DNA.

The Vivian Silver Impact Prize will be awarded annually to two women, one Jewish and the other Palestinian, who work in areas that were central to Vivian’s life, namely establishing an Arab-Jewish partnership in Israel, the promotion of Israeli-Arab peace and the promotion of women to management and decision-making positions. The winners will receive $15,000 each.
This year, the winners are the Palestinian political scientist Rula Hardal and the Israeli lawyer and activist Me May Pundak.
Hardal and Pundak are joint directors of A Land for All, a joint movement of Israelis and Palestinians who believe that the path to peace, security and stability lies through a two-state solution.
The award will be presented to Hardal and Pundak during a ceremony to be held on November 21 at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art and broadcast live with simultaneous English translation.
