fire at a Christmas tree producer, the favored criminal trail

But who could blame the Morvan Christmas trees? Last Thursday, November 14, a fire ravaged the warehouse of Naudet nurseries, the leading producer of natural Christmas trees in , located in Planchez, in Nièvre. An investigation was opened and entrusted to the public prosecutor's office, to try to determine the circumstances of the facts.

This Wednesday, November 20, Marie-Christine Woldanski, deputy public prosecutor of Nevers, explained to France 3 Bourgogne-Franche-Comté that the criminal track is favored.

“We do indeed have suspicions as to the criminal nature of the facts, without being able to confirm it with certainty at this stage,” she explained.

Damage of more than a million euros

During the fire, the 1,300 square meter warehouse, in which mainly equipment was stored, was completely destroyed. Questioned by the same media after the tragedy, the general director of Naudet nurseries, deploring damage which “certainly exceeds a million euros”, also mentioned a criminal trail.

“This is just me, but I'm pretty convinced it was arson. It's very strange that a fire would break out here in the middle of the night, other than to cause harm at a key moment of the year for us, but I trust the gendarmerie to shed light on this incident,” Frédéric Naudet told France 3.

Fortunately, as Christmas approaches, the tree producer assures that this fire, which “only concerns a building with equipment and consumables”, will not prevent it from “delivering to all customers.”
