The investigation into the causes of death was entrusted to the police station in the neighboring town of L'Haÿ-les-Roses, said the prosecution, requested by AFP.
According to a police source, the inmate was found hanging with his sheet by a prison guard who was doing his rounds. The prison doctor on duty tried to resuscitate him, in vain, adds this source.
Convicted of drug trafficking
The inmate was serving a two-year sentence after being convicted on September 12 by the Créteil criminal court for drug trafficking, detailed the prosecution.
At the end of October, a 58-year-old inmate was also found hanging dead in his cell.
According to the International Prison Observatory (OIP), “the prison administration counted 149 suicides” in prison in 2023.
