“A soldier died from his injuries after the Israeli army targeted an army vehicle” in a southern border area, the Lebanese army announced on the social network X.

Tuesday evening, the army announced the death of three soldiers in an Israeli strike targeting their position in Sarafand, a coastal town about forty kilometers from the border.

In AFP images, we can see the army post destroyed by the strike. Eight other people were injured in the strike, including civilians who were nearby, according to the Health Ministry.

These strikes come amid fierce fighting between pro-Iranian Hezbollah and the Israeli army in southern border areas, where it launched a ground offensive on September 30.

The National News Agency (ANI, official) reported “violent clashes” and added that Israeli forces were trying to “advance towards the Kfarchouba hills” under intense artillery and aircraft cover.

Hezbollah for its part assured Tuesday evening that it continued to repel the advance of Israeli forces, particularly towards the important town of Khiam, some six km from the border.

The powerful pro-Iranian formation has claimed responsibility for around thirty attacks since Tuesday against Israeli forces and army positions in southern Lebanon and northern Israel.

These clashes come as the American presidential envoy, Amos Hochstein, continues his talks in Beirut on Wednesday with the aim of reaching a cease-fire with Israel.

Violence between Israel and the Lebanese movement has left more than 3,540 dead since October 2023, most since Israel launched a massive bombing campaign and a ground offensive at the end of September.

On the Israeli side, 79 soldiers and 46 civilians were killed in 13 months.
