If you were planning to buy a holiday log from Vachon this year, you might think twice… Indeed, its price reached a new peak this year and that has greatly caused a reaction among Quebecers.
Among the comments, we find a bit of everything, but above all irony and disillusionment. Let’s face it, this is not the best advertising for Vachon.
“Before it was a log, now it’s not a branch”
“I saw it at the grocery store today, I left it on the shelf, where the sellers are going to throw them away, just don’t encourage them”
“At this price, does it still taste like cardboard? »
“Our money is no longer worth anything.”
“I haven’t been buying them for several years because of that!!! No sense. »
For those who have a memory lapse, here is what this famous holiday log looks like.
It was during a visit to Metro that Jean Benoit Lemire realized that Vachon’s holiday log had reached a dizzying price.
“To what extent our consumer society is slipping when the Vachon log is $13.99! $13.99? It will be all thanks,” he wrote in addition to accompanying his message with a photo of the price of Vachon holiday logs at Metro.
If many Quebecers find the price far too high, many point out that the price was much lower not so long ago.
We did a little digging and came across a Facebook post from Maxi dating from 2020 and the Vachon holiday log was listed at $9.
It still makes a big difference…!
Some Internet users try to put things into perspective and say that it can be found cheaper elsewhere.
“$10.97 at Walmart…and wait until December 26, you’ll find it for 7.99! »
“Where were you?” IGA is $10.99 and I found it expensive »
Clearly, the year 2024 has not finished surprising us!
