This Tuesday, November 19, during this 48th day of hearing, the court offered the possibility to the main accused of the Mazan rapes to speak one last time, before definitively closing the debates.
Dominique Pelicot spoke for the last time this Tuesday, November 19. As a preamble, he wanted to address his children. “I thought they would be wiped out, but not to this extent”he said apologetically. The main accused then referred to what, earlier in the day, had been mentioned at the hearing: the absence of tears from Gisèle Pelicot. “I hear my wife doesn't cry. I know her better than everyone here. When she lost her dad, she looked the same. It’s like that”he stressed.
Then Dominique Pelicot addressed the question of the motive for his crime. The accused establishes a direct link between these rapes that he subjected his ex-wife to and the rape he experienced when, as a child, he was hospitalized, inflicted by a nurse. He also mentions the sexual assault of which he was allegedly the victim at the age of 14, while working on a construction site. “Of course, that doesn't excuse… But if I managed to do what I did with people who voluntarily accepted, it's perhaps because of that”breathes Dominique Pelicot.
Before concluding: “submitting a rebellious woman was my fantasy. Out of selfishness, I wanted to make her suffer like I saw my mother suffer because she had no choice. Here is my mobile, you take it as you wish”he concluded in court.
