This Monday, November 18, 2024, the Abbé-Pierre Foundation revealed the winners of the worst anti-homeless measures during the 3rd Golden Peaks ceremony. These winners were decided following a major inventory campaign of the systems implemented in France. A jury then decided the winner in six different categories.
In one of them, a system set up in Charente was nominated. This is the category “Move out of there” which rewards the worst anti-precarious decree. The decree in question was issued by the Charente prefecture. This decree prohibited people from remaining static for long periods of time in public spaces. A roundabout way of banning begging in the city center.
The Angoulême decree defeated by a Calais decree
If the Angoulême decree was among the nomineeshowever, he did not win the “Pic d’or”, Move away. It was the “zero fixation point” decree taken in Calais which won the prize.
This decree aims to prevent any camp installation by regularly destroying them in an attempt to prevent any permanent installation.
