(Multimedia) Typhoon Man-yi suspends ferries, floods streets in south China – Xinhua

GUANGZHOU, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) — Approaching Typhoon Man-yi has caused tidal waves in south China’s Guangdong Province, causing congestion in several cities and towns and leading to the suspension of ferry services .

All ferry services across the Qiongzhou Strait will be suspended from Tuesday evening. According to the Guangdong Maritime Safety Administration, some ferry services across the strait and other routes were also disrupted on Tuesday.

According to weather authorities, the typhoon, combined with a cold snap, caused a storm surge along the Guangdong coast.

On Monday evening, some streets in Shenzhen were submerged in seawater. Authorities noted that this phenomenon lasted about one to two hours and did not cause serious damage.

Similar traffic jams were also reported in the town of Shanwei on Monday evening, without causing any casualties.

Local authorities have predicted further submersion episodes for the coming days and have advised residents to reduce their outdoor activities.
